Does meeting audio leave my Mac?

No. Transcription, speaker separation, summaries and translation into an installed language pair all run on the Mac. Only if you chose Claude or OpenAI with your own key does the summary request go to that provider.

Can it record when I'm muted?

Earlyn records meetings as text on your Mac: it transcribes your microphone and the other side's audio, tells speakers apart, writes a summary with decisions and action items, and can translate the conversation as it happens.

It notices the call, you decide

When Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Slack, Discord, Webex or a browser tab with Google Meet holds the microphone for 15 seconds, Earlyn offers to record in a small panel at the right edge of the screen and in a notification. It never starts on its own.

Transcribed on your Mac, in any language

Speech is turned into text by Whisper large-v3-turbo running on the Mac's graphics chip (a 574 MB download). Your microphone is labelled “You”; the Mac's audio is split into speakers by voice. Words appear in the side panel as they are spoken and are saved a sentence at a time. On 60 Turkish test clips Whisper made 8.2 errors per 100 words; the full measurement.

Earlyn works out the spoken language from the last 30 seconds of speech, so a meeting can switch languages. You can also fix the language in the panel. Without the Whisper download, Apple's on-device speech recognition is used in your Mac's language.

Live translation

Pick a language in the side panel and each line is translated under the original as the meeting goes. Earlyn uses Apple's on-device translation when the language pair is installed on your Mac, and the answer model otherwise. Translations are shown, not stored.

After the call

A summary with a title, decisions and action items is written when the meeting ends.
Action items can go to Apple Reminders in one click.
Name a voice once and Earlyn recognises it in later meetings.
Keep the audio if you want to replay a line; it is mixed to mono AAC (about 14 MB an hour) and sealed like your screen pictures.
Export a meeting as a PDF with the summary, the transcript and any translation shown.
Import an audio or video file and it is transcribed and summarised the same way.
Agents can run when a meeting ends, for example to draft a follow-up e-mail.
